Put a Spring In Your Step With the V-Plan diet

Lose pounds, save pounds, never feel hungry and reduce your risk of killer diseases - that's the claim behind a new diet from health charity, the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation (VVF).

According to the VVF, the V-Plan Diet is an antidote to fad diets which don't work. In fact, research has shown that following a low-fat vegetarian diet can produce greater weight loss than Atkins, Weight Watchers or the Zone diet. Plus, it can cut your risk of heart disease, strokes, diabetes and even some cancers.

The 40 page V-Plan Diet comes with simple advice and inspiring recipes to help weight watchers reform their habits and put healthy eating patterns into practice.

The VVF has recently published a Globesity report, an explanation of how meat and dairy are at the core of the world's expanding obesity epidemic. In fact, research has found that the one food most associated with weight gain was meat.

This is supported by the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey, which reports that meat and meat products are the leading source of fat in most people's diets. Obesity is also increasing rapidly amongst children, with the fattest consuming the most milk. The plant-based V-Plan Diet is suitable for children, too.

"Study after study shows vegetarians and vegans are slimmer and healthier than meat eaters," says Amanda Woodvine, VVF nutritionist. "Far from being yet another fad diet, the V-Plan Diet is an effective and long-term recipe for a better body, better health and better eating. Going veggie doesn't mean going without.”

For example, one day's menu with the V-Plan Diet includes a creamy cashew-cardamom shake for breakfast, lunch of Italian tomato and bean soup served with bread or oatcakes, and a dinner of lentil and frankfurter stew with green vegetables, rounded off with raspberry and almond syllabub. There's also advice on daily snacks and how to incorporate plenty of fresh fruit.

We have a free nutritional analysis and a personalised diet plan to give away to one lucky winner, plus 10 runners-up will each receive a free copy of the V-Plan Diet, together with a pedometer, nutritional wallchart, apron, and jute shopping bag.
